The European Zen Center (Netherlands) Foundation aims to spread the Zen
of Master Taisen Deshimaru in the Netherlands. Taisen Deshimaru
(1914-1982) was a renowned Japanese Zen master who came to Europe to
teach Zen in the line of his master Kodo Sawaki. It was Kodo Sawaki´s
wish to make Zen available for everybody thus allowing it to become an
integrated and transforming part of society instead of being practiced
in the secluded world of the monasteries as it used to be in Japan.
The Zen in the line of Taisen Deshimaru is practiced all over Europe,
South America, the United States and Canada. In the Netherlands there
are dojo´s in Amsterdam and Utrecht.
Taisen Deshimaru died in 1982. The European Zen Center Foundation is now
being directed by one of his closest disciples, Master Kosen Thibaut.
